Technology & Specialised Learning at Mokoia Intermediate

At Mokoia Intermediate, our Technology and Specialised Learning programme is designed to transform ākonga from digital consumers into confident creators, innovators, and problem-solvers. Through authentic, hands-on learning experiences, students develop practical skills, creative thinking, resilience, and the ability to apply their learning in real-world contexts.

Working in purpose-built specialist learning spaces, students rotate through a range of engaging technology subjects that challenge their thinking, ignite their creativity, and prepare them for future pathways.

Hard Materials (Woodwork)

Students design, plan, and construct practical projects using a variety of tools, materials, and construction techniques. Through the design process, students develop problem-solving skills, precision, perseverance, and pride in creating quality products.

Digital Technology & Makerspace

Students explore coding, digital design, emerging technologies, and responsible digital citizenship. Our collaborative makerspace environment encourages innovation, creativity, and computational thinking as students learn to become creators of technology rather than simply consumers.

Food Technology & Cooking

Students develop practical life skills while learning about nutrition, food safety, preparation techniques, and culinary creativity. Through hands-on cooking experiences, students gain confidence in the kitchen and develop an understanding of healthy lifestyle choices.

Music

Students have the opportunity to explore music through performance, composition, and creative expression. They develop skills in rhythm, melody, collaboration, and confidence while engaging with a variety of musical styles, instruments, and technologies. Music encourages creativity, teamwork, and a lifelong appreciation of the arts.

Bio-Technology & Science

Students investigate scientific concepts, sustainability, environmental challenges, and real-world biotechnology applications. Through inquiry, experimentation, and problem-solving, students develop scientific thinking and a deeper understanding of the world around them
