Arts

The Arts at Mokoia Intermediate

At Mokoia Intermediate, we believe the Arts provide students with powerful opportunities to express themselves, tell stories, develop confidence, and showcase their unique talents. Through visual arts, music, dance, drama, and performance, our students are encouraged to explore their creativity, take risks, and discover new passions.

The Arts are an important part of life at Mokoia, providing opportunities for students of all abilities to participate, collaborate, and achieve success both within our school and on regional and national stages.

Opportunities to Create and Perform

Students are encouraged to become involved in a wide range of artistic and cultural experiences that foster creativity, communication, and innovation. Through classroom programmes, specialist opportunities, extension groups, and performances, students develop skills that support both artistic excellence and personal growth.

  • ShowQuest
Mokoia students have the opportunity to participate in ShowQuest, New Zealand’s premier performing arts competition for schools. Through a combination of drama, dance, music, storytelling, and visual effects, students work collaboratively to create original performances that communicate powerful messages and showcase their creativity on stage.
  • BandQuest
For aspiring musicians, BandQuest provides an exciting opportunity to perform as part of a band while developing musical skills, teamwork, and stage presence. Students collaborate to rehearse, compose, and perform music while gaining valuable experience performing in front of live audiences.
  • TOI
Our involvement in TOI allows students to celebrate and explore creativity through a variety of artistic disciplines. TOI encourages self-expression, innovation, collaboration, and the sharing of ideas while providing authentic opportunities for students to showcase their talents and artistic growth.

Celebrating Creativity

Beyond these major events, students have opportunities to engage in visual arts, wearable arts, music, drama, cultural performances, school productions, and a variety of creative extension programmes throughout the year. These experiences help students develop confidence, communication skills, resilience, and a lifelong appreciation for the arts.

Inspiring the Creative Thinkers of Tomorrow

The Arts play a vital role in helping students develop imagination, empathy, innovation, and self-confidence. Through participation in creative experiences, students learn to think differently, communicate effectively, and contribute positively to their communities.

At Mokoia Intermediate, we are proud to provide opportunities for every student to create, perform, inspire, and shine. Whether on stage, behind the scenes, in the art room, or as part of a creative team, our students are encouraged to embrace their talents and share them with the world.
