Mrs Jones’s Shout Out

Kia ora koutou,

As we head into the colder months, we are seeing winter illnesses take hold across the motu, with the ‘flu season’ arriving earlier than usual. Additionally, Aotearoa is currently at a high risk of a measles outbreak due to a decline in immunisation rates since COVID-19. Te Whatu Ora advises our school community to stay vigilant and follow their guidelines. The best protection against a measles outbreak is
the MMR vaccine. You can find more information here.

On a brighter note, I am incredibly proud of our Mokoia students. Today, our student council organized a bake sale and a fun afternoon of games as part of their fundraiser for Youthline’s “Walk the Talk” campaign. Walk the talk is a campaign that encourages everyone to take the challenge and commit to exercising for at least 31 minutes each day. This initiative supports Youthline, a crucial service providing free support for young people in need of someone to talk to. Each year, thousands of young Kiwis struggle with their mental health, and it’s our responsibility to ensure they don’t face these challenges alone. Youth mental health is in crisis, and there has never been a greater need for campaigns like Walk
the Talk.

Thanks to the hard work and enthusiasm of our students, we raised a fantastic $595.40 for this wonderful cause. Our Deputy Principal, Whaea Kathryn, has also taken up the challenge this month, and our student council thought it would be a great idea for our students to get involved in supporting this initiative.
