Tena Koutou Parents & Caregivers
Welcome to Week 4, we have had another successful Noho marae with W3/4 and W1/2. It is wonderful for our staff and students to be able to have an experience like this. Thanks to all staff who have helped in someway. Teaching our school values is important and embedding the use of these in everyday life is necessary, you can support us by talking with your child/ren each day about values, behaviour and having a great attitude.
Arrival at school
We advise that students don’t arrive before 8:00am as any time before that creates a health and safety issue as there are no teachers available before this time unless in exceptional circumstances. Children will not be allowed into the classrooms until after 8:30am.
Phones away for the day
All state schools | kura are required to implement a phone rule that has student phones ‘away for the day’ as soon as possible in Term 1 2024.
The Government has introduced regulations to put this requirement in place. These can be found at:
Education (School Boards) Amendment Regulations 2023 – Parliamentary Counsel Office.
The regulations require that schools must ensure students do not use or access a phone while they are attending school, including during lunch time and breaks. This includes students who are on a school course or visit outside the school grounds.
This must be in effect no later than the start of Term 2, 29 April 2024.
Schools must allow students to use or access a phone when:
- a phone is needed for health reasons (for example, to monitor insulin levels); or
- a phone is needed to help a student with a disability or learning support need (for example, to assist with impaired communication); or
- a teacher requires students to use phones for a specific educational task or purpose (for example, for a class assignment); or
- the principal decides that they are needed for special circumstances (for example, the student is a teenage parent).
